New Opening 2022

Grand Paradiso

Grand Paradiso is a project dedicated to audio-visual art in all its forms: cinema, short film, video clips… It’s a universe that pays homage to the seventh art, and its most inspiring representatives (for Concept), provide the names for its three grand suites: Almodóvar, David Lynch and Wes Anderson. The other rooms will be named after international audio-visual artists, and there is a cinema where we will show films and documentaries and a gallery where the works of different artists will be exhibited on screens. A place where pastel colours, Art Deco (in its most classic and elegant version) and hedonism converge in the heart of San Antonio bay.

Most traumatic breakups in music history

The most traumatic breakups in music history

From The Beatles and Guns N’ Roses to Héroes del Silencio, The Spice Girls and Daft Punk, the list of messy musical breakups are endless. Here we look back at some of the most traumatic, crying while we listen to the great songs they left us as a legacy.

GUNS N’ROSES

The bust-ups that led to the breakup of the legendary rock band Guns N’Roses are common knowledge, with years of bad blood between the principal members Axl Rose (vocals) and Slash (guitar). Gilby Clarke was the first to abandon the ship in 1994, followed two years later by Slash, the flag bearer of rock ‘n’ roll excess, who finally left the band after countless fights with Axl. But nothing is set in stone in rock, so after getting an offer they couldn’t refuse, this dynamic duo decided to reunite in 2018, delivering a world tour that exceeded all expectations.

SODA STÉREO

One of the biggest bands in Latin America – and the first Spanish-speaking band to achieve massive success – ended its days amidst heartaches, sorrows and an estranged relationship between Gustavo Cerati (vocals) and his bandmates Zeta Bosio (bass) and Charly Alberti (drums). The Argentinean band established itself as an alt-rock standard-bearer, putting Latin America on the map for this music and paving the way for many others later. Soda Stéreo could not overcome their differences, and they rarely saw each other from their separation until Cerati’s death in 2014. We will always have Amor Amarillo to remember this unprecedented band at its finest.

HÉROES DEL SILENCIO

In October 1996, this band from Zaragoza, led by Enrique Bunbury, announced a temporary retirement from music, or so it seemed at the time. They said they needed time to rest, recover and dedicate more time to their personal lives. However, this break became ever longer over time, leading to an indefinite separation. Ultimately, it took them 11 years to get back together on stage. The reasons were an enigma for a long time until a Netflix documentary about the band arrived on the small screen, where Juan Valdivia (guitar) tells the story of an episode in a hotel in Tijuana. According to Valdivia’s words, Bunbury held a meeting where he read a ‘manifesto’ to the band, announcing abrupt changes in the artistic direction of Héroes, which included the absence of guitars and the incorporation of new technology on the musical side. Valdivia promptly got up and left the meeting, marking the beginning of the end.

SPICE GIRLS
Between 1996 and 2000, a musical tsunami swept the earth called The Spice Girls. Everybody danced to Wannabe ad nauseam in the 90s. Both girls and women wanted to be like Emma Bunton, Victoria Adams, Geri Halliwell, Mel B. or Mel C, and short Union Jack dresses became very popular as a present. The most famous girl group of all time broke every record in the music industry and set precedents with the cry of “Girl Power!” The cultural impact of these five women on stage is hard to put into words. They represented different types of women and girls across the world felt represented by one of them. It isn’t surprising that their split, initiated by the redhead Halliwell (the first to launch her solo career), came as a tremendous shock to their fans. To their delight, they got back together in 2007 for a tour that lasted two years that once again took attracted vast numbers of fans.

THE BEATLES

By now, no one blames Yoko Ono for the breakup of the greatest, most famous and psychedelic band of all time: The Beatles. This is thanks to extensive interviews with Paul McCartney over the years, a documentary with new material called Get Back and other posthumous revelations after John Lennon’s death in 1980. We now know that the relationship between the band’s most prominent members and creative brains (Lennon and McCartney) was not exactly a bed of roses and that George Harrison was a frustrated composer who was barely allowed to contribute songs and express himself creatively). Many years of being at the top of the game finally took its toll on the group. Nothing lasts forever. However, the Liverpool quartet left us with one of the most prolific discographies in music history and a song for every moment of life.

30 years of True Romance

30 years of True Romance

by Laura Martínez

“You’re so cool, you’re so cool…” said Alabama lying on the beach during her final monologue in this cult classic, which passed unnoticed for many years as the great forgotten film in Tarantino’s filmography. We celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of True Romance – translated into Spanish as ‘Amor A Quemarropa’- with an exhaustive analysis of the factors that make this our favourite film written or directed by this Tennessee-born genius.

True Romance would have been titled ‘My Best Friend’s Birthday’, but it ended up being Tarantino’s first-ever film. He sold the screenplay of True Romance to legendary film director Tony Scott (Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop II) for 50,000 dollars to finance his debut feature film, ‘Reservoir Dogs.’ The star-crossed love story of Clarence and Alabama was a breakthrough for the director as it was his first screenplay for a major movie. Tarantino said it is his most autobiographical film.

Throughout the 120-minute plot, we find unmistakable connectors that recur in Tarantino’s filmography, like flashbacks, personality traits and imagination. This is the case with Dennis Hopper’s character, ex-cop and Clarence’s father, in the mythical “Sicilian” scene in his monologue with Christopher Walken. Pure Tarantino.

Although Tarantino was not initially happy with the film’s end, he has since said that Scott’s ending was more consistent with the film as a whole. Time has given this story its deserved place among the great films of American cinema. The soundtrack by Hans Zimmer and the stellar cast of Christian Slater as Clarence and Patricia Arquette as leads and a fantastic array of actors: Brad Pitt, Gary Oldman, Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, Val Kilmer, James Gandolfini and Samuel L. Jackson.

A year after the film’s release, Tarantino shocked the world with ‘Pulp Fiction’ -probably his best film – with which he won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, the Palme d’Or at Cannes and the respect of an industry that rolled out the red carpet for him.

What we owe to True Romance is much more than the first glimpse of Tarantino’s style. It is an original, funny, tough, dramatic, personal, and surprising story that lays the seed of some of the most indelible movies of the last three decades. Furthermore, we owe him Pulp Fiction, one of the greatest works of art cinema has ever produced, created by a man who asserts that he will retire his tenth and last film, ‘The Movie Critic’, rumoured to be based on the figure of Pauline Kael, the most feared Hollywood critic of the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Kael fiercely defended the directors of the so-called ‘New Hollywood’ – Spielberg, Scorsese and Brian De Palma – and had a major beef with Clint Eastwood – saying that Dirty Harry, one of his biggest films, was a “fascist movie,” along with disputes with Woody Allen and John Cassavetes. Tarantino considers Kael as influential as any Hollywood director and a key player in the film industry. “Lady Vinegar”, as she was known in the film world, stood up to Hollywood’s titans and had no qualms about expressing her opinions – often against the tide – loud and clear.

Whether the film is about this legendary film critic or not, we can’t wait to see the 10th movie by Quentin Tarantino while hoping it won’t be the last time.

7 Unmissable films set in Ibiza and Formentera

7 Unmissable films set in Ibiza and Formentera

By Laura Martínez

IIbiza is the perfect setting to star in your own film, anything can happen on this island, from bumping into Kate Moss shopping in Dalt Vila, Massiel walking her dog, or Jade Jagger chowing down on fresh fish in a Cala Xuclar beach bar. If all these have happened to me in just three years of living on La Isla Bonita, what can’t happen in an actual film shot on the islands? Here are seven films set in Ibiza and Formentera, so you’ll be well-informed for your next getaway.

1. THE EUROPEANS – VICTOR GARCÍA-LEÓN (2020)

Two men, both single and in their thirties, travel to Ibiza in the late 1950s, attracted by the legend of sex, European tourists and freedom. But when they arrive on the island, things don’t turn out as they had planned. Raúl Arévalo and Juan Diego Botto star in this nostalgic comedy that received three nominations at the 2020 Goya Awards.

2. SEX AND LUCIA – JULIO MEDEM (2001)

Possibly the most famous sequence shot in Formentera sees a tousle-haired Paz Vega riding a bike in her red dress with the Cap de Barbaria lighthouse disappearing behind her. This cult film explores sexual freedom, desire, the sadness of falling out of love, absolute heartbreak and passion. Lucia travels to this quiet island in the Mediterranean (Formentera), where she remembers her relationship with Lorenzo, a writer she fell in love with while reading his works. You’ll travel to Formentera with a different outlook after watching this film.

6. A SUMMER IN IBIZA – ARNAUD LEMORT (2019)

This French comedy, starring Christian Clavier and Mathilde Seigner, chronicles the adventures of a ‘modern family’ in which Phillipe (Clavier) wants to win the affection of his girlfriend’s teenage children at all costs. He makes a deal with her son: if he passes his exams, he can choose the destination for their summer holiday. Of course, the son passes with flying colours and chooses Ibiza. Philippe is in for the surprise of his life… French humour in its purest form.

7. MORE – BARBET SHROEDER (1969)

This cult film was censored in several countries at the time of its release, but like all films ahead of their time, it marked a before and after, especially among films that deal with drug addiction and sex, two subjects that film producers scrupulously avoided at the time. Focusing on the lifestyle of hippy communes in the 60s and 70s, the film is impeccably photographed and shows Ibiza in a very organic, almost dreamlike way.

The story behind our soundtracks

The story behind our soundtracks

As Bowie said: “Put on your red shoes and dance the blues.” At Concept, music is the soul of each hotel, with the sounds of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Funk, Disco, Balearic House, Swing and Cha-cha-chá providing each one with a unique personality. Both the DJs that play in the hotels and the playlists perfectly sum up the vibe in each establishment.
Music takes you to another place, and our hotels are designed to teleport you to Miami, Cuba or Nashville, without leaving Ibiza. Image and soundtrack have never been in such harmony.

TROPICANA IBIA

Mi-Mo aesthetics, vibrant colours and nods to “Cocktail,” (Tom Cruise’s classic 80s movie that makes you want to live in a bar forever) provide the inspiration for Tropicana, the hotel where you can sip on a cocktail while admiring the pool and the shower in
the form of a Martini glass. Wrapped in a Miami Beach tropical ambience, its sound is a mix of “disco funk, tropical Jazz, 80’s vibes and bossa nova,” as defined by Simøne, the hotel’s resident DJ.

CUBANITO

The flavour and character of Cuba are to be found in Cubanito hotel, with touches of Latin Jazz, Salsa, Boogaloo and Merengue. Jordi Cardona is in charge of putting rhythm to the eternal sunsets, (with a Mojito in hand) that take place on the rooftop of this little piece of Cuba in the Mediterranean. In addition, each Tuesday you can enjoy Salsero, our Salsa classes where you can give free rein to your hips. On Sundays, there are live performances from legends such as Ricardito, the “Cuban Julio Iglesias” who has sung with Celia Cruz and Juan Luis Guerra.

DORADO IBIZA

A love letter to the golden era of rock. This is the Dorado Ibiza’s statement of intent, backed up by the best in classic rock, folk, 70s and soul. This is a temple of Rock by the sea, where each of the hotel’s rooms is named after a song that went gold. Acclaimed artists such as Jim Morrison, Blondie and Bruce Springsteen have a room dedicated to them, and when the guest enters, the record which bears the room’s name starts to play on a turntable. The bathrooms are fitted with retro microphone heads so that guests can sing like a star while having a shower.

PARADISO IBIZA ART HOTEL

Paradiso Ibiza Art Hotel is our very own pastel pink paradise, where both art and Art Deco aesthetics merge into a dreamlike space. What do these dreams sound like? Nu-Disco, Italo Disco, Balearic Beat and 80s Funk. An art gallery curated by Adda Gallery Paris, a tattoo studio, exhibitions in the lobby and a glass-walled room that isn’t for wallflowers… Ocean Drive in Miami would just love to do all this…

Pet policy

Pet policy

The average dog is a nicer person than the average person,” said the famous American film and television scriptwriter Andy Rooney. And he was right. Lump, Picasso’s loveable dachshund, was an inspirational muse for the artist, and he dedicated a series of paintings, oil paintings and serigraphs to his pet. Cara Delevigne has even taken her dog with her on the Chanel catwalk. When they lived in the White House, Michelle and Barack Obama frequently posed with their dogs, Bo and Sunny.

At Concept Hotel Group, we understand you want to take your furry friend with you everywhere, especially on holiday.

You love spending your free time with them, and finding places where you can comfortably relax with your faithful companion is increasingly difficult. As luck would have it, we at Concept Hotel Group accept canines up to 8 kg and guide dogs under these simple conditions:

– A complete and updated vaccination card for rabies, parvovirus and leishmaniasis.

– Maximum weight allowed: 8 kg.

– Hygiene and care are the responsibility of the person in charge of the dog.

– It is important that the dog is docile and well-trained.

– It is not allowed to leave the dog unattended inside the room.

– The dog must always be kept on a leash in common areas.

– The person in charge of the dog is responsible for any damage it may cause.

The Story that inspired Mongibello

The Story that inspired Mongibello

By Laura Martínez

The great American author Patricia Highsmith is the pen behind The Talented Mr. Ripley, one of her most successful novels. It’s about a swindler who sneaks into the lives of two true bon vivants getting a glorious tan on the Amalfi coast. The action takes place in this story of mystery, lies, hidden passions and dolce far niente.

Patricia Highsmith, the grand dame of mystery made in the U.S.A, travelled to Europe for the first time after writing her bestseller, Strangers on a Train. The book also became a classic film directed by another master of mystery: Alfred Hitchcock. On the trip, Highsmith decided to visit the Amalfi coast, and while staying in a charming hotel in Positano, she saw a very tall, handsome man with glasses and a briefcase in his hand. He looked like a man with good taste; maybe he played an instrument… or perhaps nothing was what it seemed.

The writer’s mind began to take flight with the image of this man, who, in her imagination, already had a name and surname: Tom Ripley. Patricia invented the place where the plot unfolds: a quiet little village on the Italian coast, fictionally called, Mongibello. There is no such village anywhere on the beautiful Amalfi coast, but Mount Etna, in the province of Catania, is popularly known in Sicily as Mongi, Gibello or Mongibello.

Taormina and those winding roads that give a glimpse of the beautiful Palermo coast and its vineyards, Notto and its palaces… Italy is more fashionable than ever with the arrival of the second season of the series ‘The White Lotus’ created by Mike White. A superb hotel in Taormina is at the heart of the plot, with guests on the verge of a nervous breakdown in every episode. Well-constructed characters, the mounting tension and a dreamy setting are all ingredients from Highsmith’s kitchen.

“The Talented Mr. Ripley’ tells the story of a man who skilfully accumulates secrets and lies but crosses people and situations that will shake his foundations. In the first film adaptation, ‘A Plein du Soleil’ (1960, René Clément), a very young and handsome Alain Delon plays Dickie Greenleaf, the object of Tom’s desire. Dickie has everything Tom wants: money, class and friends. Tom has the talent that Dickie lacks, and when they meet, they seem to connect perfectly.

In the American adaptation directed by Anthony Minghella in 1999, Dickie is played by Jude Law, and he embodies, with delightful accuracy, that spirit of the eternal, shirtless, carefree holidaymaker. The twisted Ripley is Matt Damon, and Dickie’s beautiful fiancée is Gwyneth Paltrow.

Without delving further into the film’s plot, which is highly recommended to watch before visiting Mongibello, I leave you with this quote from Dickie Greenleaf, Highsmith’s quintessential summer holidaymaker: “I’m going to enjoy what I’ve got, as long as it lasts”.

Get married in a different way

Get married in a different way

By Laura Martínez

We take a tour around the hotels of Concept Hotel Group in Ibiza and get to know each of their universes to discover which wedding – or pre-wedding – best suits you. Take note because the options are varied and original.

ROMEO’S MOTEL & DINER

This love letter to the ‘Love Motels’ of Route 66 is a hotel in the form of a luxury motel with neon lights, a diner inspired by classic films like “True Romance” and “Pulp Fiction.” Its jewel in the crown is an express-style chapel to get married as if you were in Las Vegas. Whether you want to make it official or not, that’s up to you, but what Romeo’s guarantees is a delicious menu and a post-party with all the extras: a white Lincoln limousine, and late-night dancing in the Playroom, the hotel’s naughtiest spot with a pole dance pole, leopard sofas, a bar, Karaoke and DJ booth. What are you waiting for to sing along to The Crystals: “Goin’ to the chapel, And we’re gonna get married.”

CUBANITO

The Havana of the 50s is in Ibiza, don’t rub your eyes; it’s true! Just a few metres from Cala Gració, this corner of Cuba oozes with Latin flavour and is one of the most charismatic hotels by this irreverent hotel group. This object of desire has already been a feature in advertising campaigns for Playboy and Loewe, and it is safe to say that Cubanito is Concept Hotel Group’s most romantic hotel. The rooftop offers breathtaking sunsets over the bay and live Cuban music performances. Cubanito’s menu is full of nods to the Caribbean Island’s cuisine. This little piece of Cuba in Ibiza is everything you’ve always dreamed of for that Caribbean wedding that is much closer than you think.

PARADISO

One of the most entertaining options I can think of for a pre-wedding is undoubtedly at Paradiso Art Hotel. This hotel is a tribute to art, with each of its colourful, vibrant eighties-inspired rooms named after a contemporary, national or international artist with original artwork from each one inside. The hotel’s art gallery, run by ADDA Gallery Paris, is focused on urban art, and its yearly rotating exhibitions and exterior walls are expressions of the movement’s artists. The most Instagrammable hotel in Europe in 2019 is also its liveliest; with aesthetics inspired by Miami’s Ocean Drive, a bar in the shape of a beach tower, pastel colours, and girly atmosphere make it an undeniable attraction for all kinds of island celebrations.

MONGIBELLO

Paradiso Art Hotel’s little brother is Grand Paradiso. Concept Hotel Group’s latest opening is also dedicated to art, this time of the audiovisual kind. It has a cinema inspired by classic movie theatres with velvet armchairs and adjoining tables, and pays tribute to the seventh art featuring the Little Spain crew, director Chloe Wallace and actor and director Eduardo Casanova. With more spacious rooms and sea views, Grand Paradiso goes a step further and offers a higher quality of service with the best sunset in San Antonio Bay. A pink Cadillac El Dorado converted into a hot tub called ‘El Caduzzi’, and a movie-type setting plays witness to an unconventional wedding.

MONGIBELLO

The most eagerly awaited opening of 2023 in Ibiza is this dream hotel that draws inspiration from the Amalfi coast to bring the Dolce Vita to our Mediterranean island. The group’s most ambitious proposal will have 32 suites dedicated to people with a special link to the island. Renowned PR Carlos Martorell, actress Ángela Molina and the world motorcycle champion Ángel Nieto are some of the people to be honoured in this hedonistic temple in Santa Eulalia. In July 2023, it will open its doors to fill this dream enclave with an Italo-Ibizan essence, with allies Dante New York, included in the ‘The World’ 50 Best Bars’, and the creators of El Silencio Ibiza and Silencio Club de París in charge of the hotel’s gastronomy. Can you think of a better place to celebrate a grand Mediterranean wedding? Frankly, I can’t think of anywhere better!

The top six of Hollywood´s shortest-ever marriages

The top six of Hollywood´s shortest-ever marriages

When it comes to love, nothing is set in stone, and if we’re talking about going all out and getting married on a whim, then celebrities and Las Vegas take the cake. We take a look at the shortest marriages that Sin City’s registries have to offer.

1. BRITNEY SPEARS AND JASON ALEXANDER
MARRIED FOR 55 HOURS

The pop princess’s craziest period had a bit of everything: fights with the paparazzi machine that dominated the early 2000s (the most aggressive photographers in living memory), trying to hit paps with an umbrella before finally using it to attack a car, extreme haircuts and, of course, a trip to Las Vegas, including marriage to her childhood friend Jason Alexander. The next day, Britney presumably woke up with the hangover of her life and shook her head when she realised that she had indeed got married. Jason went so far as to comment that he was in love with the pop diva at the time, and although naughty drugs were involved, he did it in good faith. The singer’s trusted team thought it was nonsense and went to Las Vegas to stop the union immediately. The marriage lasted just over 2 days, and Britney said:  “It was me being silly, being rebellious, and not really taking responsibility for what I was doing, you know?

2. NICOLAS CAGE AND ERIKA KOIKE
MARRIED FOR 4 DAYS

If there is someone who gets married often, like someone who collects patches for his denim jacket, it is the star of Wild at Heart, Nicolas Cage. After his brief union with fellow actress Christina Fulton, he fell madly in love and married Patricia Arquetteof True Romance fame before Lisa Marie Presley arrived, the only daughter of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, of whom Cage is a staunch fan. The exception to this succession of brief liaisons is Alice Kim, mother of his second child and wife of more than ten years. However, a leopard never changes its spots, and a year later, Cage met Erika Koike in Los Angeles. Less than a year later, the couple married in the middle of a night out in the world’s most famous casino city. Their divorce lasted longer and was more costly than their marriage, but that hasn’t stopped the actor from getting married for the umpteenth time, to Riko Shibata in February 2021. Good luck once again, Nicolas.

4. KATY PERRY AND RUSSELL BRAND
MARRIED FOR 14 MONTHS

The pop diva and the English comedian had one of those dazzling relationships that passed like a comet. Intense and passionate and with a heartbreaking ending.
Perry and Brand seemed to be made for each other, but it turned out that they only had so many common goals in life. Russell Brand wanted to start a family, but Katy’s touring schedule and professional commitments meant she wasn’t ready. The comedian wondered if his wife would ever be prepared to be a mother – something he wanted more than anything – and didn’t hesitate to ask her for a divorce via text message moments before the singer took the stage to perform a concert in front of thousands of people. Dastardly Russell, very dastardly.

5. MILLA JOVOVICH AND SHAWN ANDREWS
MARRIED FOR 2 MONTHS

A gorgeous and young Milla Jovovich – the Resident Evil star – married Dazed and Confused actor Shawn Andrews when they were 16 and 21, respectively. This foolish idea didn’t sit well with Milla’s mother, who annulled the marriage herself two months later, being her guardian and responsible for the underage girl’s actions. Milla’smother stated in an interview that she had raised and educated her daughter to be a movie star, and nothing could stand in the way of that, much less the hunky actor from Dazed and Confused. But she got a taste for express weddings and repeated the experience with director Luc Besson, who directed Jovovich in The Fifth Element. They got married in Las Vegas and divorced a year later.

6. PAMELA ANDERSON AND KID ROCK
MARRIED FOR 4 MONTHS

The Baywatch star has yet to have much luck in love. But it isn’t for want of trying, making her one of the most lovable people in show business. She has kept her sweetness intact even in the face of unbearable paparazzi intrusion and that damn stolen sex tape. Her stormy relationship with Tommy Lee from Mötley Crüe, and the father of her children, is the stuff of legend. Pamela also “fell in love” with another bad boy of rock: the moronic Kid Rock. They got married in July 2006 on a beach in Saint-Tropez, Pamela in a white bikini, sipping champagne, and him shirtless, chugging on a cigar and swigging Corona. What could possibly go wrong?

Phix Clothinng x Concept: 70’s are back

The 70s are more fashionable than ever, just take a peek at some of the most popular series on streaming platforms: The Serpent, Costa del Sol and Vinyl to name a few.

After the 90s fever for crop tops and platform shoes, risky prints are the rage with geometric shapes, wide cuffs and long collars. There’s something about the 70s that veers between classic and sexy and never goes out of style, with a great example being singer Harry Styles. At the premiere of his new film, Don’t Worry Darling, he rocked up the red carpet emulating the young Elton John with maxi square glasses, a large-collared shirt and a pastel blue suit. The quintessential millennial pop star dressed as The Rocket Man, a sure sign that the 70s are on the rise again.

The latest collections from the crème de la crème of luxury brands: Gucci, Prada and Versace, are the standard bearers of the retro revolution. Shirts are the new ‘IT’ wardrobe item, but you won’t have to dig deep into your pocket to pick up some natty 70s-style threads. There is an English (too cool to be true brand) that captures the ethos and essence of the decade in each of its shirts: PHIX clothing.

This ‘Made in England’ brand has been collaborating with Concept since 2018, when our co-founder and CEO, Diego Calvo, and Adam, the founder and CEO of PHIX, met. Diego acts as the brand’s ambassador in Spain and has passed his passion for indiscreet shirts to the bands that have visited us for our concert series, Dorado Live Shows.

Mikel Erentxun, Los Zigarros, Derby Motoreta, Marlango, Sidonie, Dorian, Depedro and a long list of top Spanish pop-rock artists are already fans of this brand that combines quality and 70s cool to perfection. Their collaborations with the musician Miles Kane (Miles Kane x Phix) have already earned them a place among the most sought-after brands for musicians and fans of the 70s. Their latest campaign, shot in our hotels, portrays the perfect match between Concept and Phix’s visual world.

Why not check out their online shop and treat yourself to a special garment? At Concept, we don’t particularly follow trends, but Phix’s website is irresistible and reaffirms our belief in the saying: “Classic never goes out of style!”

Here are the must-read books for your holiday

Here are the must-read books for your holiday

When we set off into the sun and switch our heads off, one of the things that I enjoy most is reading a good book. Holidays were invented for stoking the imagination, having fun, getting carried away while getting a killer tan, and reading stories as good as the ones you take part in while abroad. I hope you enjoy this selection of books about travel, sensations and marvellous places, suitable for avid and holiday readers.

THIS TOO SHALL PASS by MILENA BUSQUETS

This book is already a contemporary classic that never goes out of fashion. It places us in a small village on the Costa Brava, and Busquets makes the sea, wind and waves come alive. A summer that appears idyllic but is marked by the loss of a mother. Love, family, relationships and, above all, grief, mark this beautiful story that far from sinking in pessimism, starts to show the light at the end of the tunnel.

MY FAMILY AND OTHER ANIMALS by GERALD DURRELL

Possibly one of the funniest books I have ever read. It narrates the adventures of a large family that moves to the Greek island of Corfu, with all the inconveniences and complaints of his older brothers and sisters brought to life on the page. In the middle of the Ionian Sea, this hilarious family have to come to terms, through adventure and misadventure, with the local flora and fauna while overcoming culture shock and getting used to new customs.

I REMEMBER by JOE BRAINARD

An evocative book like few others that navigates through the memories of the writer Joe Brainard in short, sharp sentences that will remind you of your own. Summers lived and unlived, boat trips, dances at dusk and lots of unanswered questions that we’ve all asked ourselves at one time, or another.

MY YEAR OF REST AND RELAXATION by OTESSA MOSSFEGH

One of the best books you can take on holiday. Recommended ad nauseam, I ended up reading it in one go. Dark and funny, in equal measure, it immerses us in the dangers of pharmaceuticals and the ease with which we take drugs for problems we don’t even know we have. Are the problems really there, or are they a figment of our imagination?

HEY! JULIO IGLESIAS AND THE CONQUEST OF AMERICA by HANS LAGUNA

It’s always a good time to read about our beloved Julito, and if he also tells us about his journey through the Americas in great detail, all the better. Hans Laguna dissects the social and cultural moment in which Julio Iglesias went where no one has been since, at a time when conquering the world was a feat worthy of Ulysses. Miami and the sun, always the sun, accompany this wonderful story about our favourite singer.
