The top six of Hollywood´s shortest-ever marriages
When it comes to love, nothing is set in stone, and if we’re talking about going all out and getting married on a whim, then celebrities and Las Vegas take the cake. We take a look at the shortest marriages that Sin City’s registries have to offer.
1. BRITNEY SPEARS AND JASON ALEXANDER
MARRIED FOR 55 HOURS
The pop princess’s craziest period had a bit of everything: fights with the paparazzi machine that dominated the early 2000s (the most aggressive photographers in living memory), trying to hit paps with an umbrella before finally using it to attack a car, extreme haircuts and, of course, a trip to Las Vegas, including marriage to her childhood friend Jason Alexander. The next day, Britney presumably woke up with the hangover of her life and shook her head when she realised that she had indeed got married. Jason went so far as to comment that he was in love with the pop diva at the time, and although naughty drugs were involved, he did it in good faith. The singer’s trusted team thought it was nonsense and went to Las Vegas to stop the union immediately. The marriage lasted just over 2 days, and Britney said: “It was me being silly, being rebellious, and not really taking responsibility for what I was doing, you know?

2. NICOLAS CAGE AND ERIKA KOIKE
MARRIED FOR 4 DAYS
If there is someone who gets married often, like someone who collects patches for his denim jacket, it is the star of Wild at Heart, Nicolas Cage. After his brief union with fellow actress Christina Fulton, he fell madly in love and married Patricia Arquetteof True Romance fame before Lisa Marie Presley arrived, the only daughter of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, of whom Cage is a staunch fan. The exception to this succession of brief liaisons is Alice Kim, mother of his second child and wife of more than ten years. However, a leopard never changes its spots, and a year later, Cage met Erika Koike in Los Angeles. Less than a year later, the couple married in the middle of a night out in the world’s most famous casino city. Their divorce lasted longer and was more costly than their marriage, but that hasn’t stopped the actor from getting married for the umpteenth time, to Riko Shibata in February 2021. Good luck once again, Nicolas.

3. DENNIS RODMAN AND CARMEN ELECTRA
MARRIED FOR 1 YEAR
The most controversial star of the Chicago Bulls, Dennis Rodman, was the rebel without a cause on the basketball court in the 90s. He dyed his hair, wore tattoos and piercings, and had two self-confessed vices: women and partying. There were two main crazes during this decade: basketball stars and Baywatch lifeguards who wore red swimming costumes and ran along Malibu’s beaches in slow motion. Carmen Electrawas, along with Pamela Anderson, one of the female stars of the David Hasselhoff-led show. As Rodman became a key player for the Bulls, he garnered a reputation as “the bad boy of basketball” with a troubled love life and feathered boas to boot, the two glittering stars met in a Los Angeles nightclub. There, Rodman kidnapped Electra’s coat and tells her he won’t give it back until she agrees to have dinner with him. In the end, there was dinner and a full-on year of partying and alcohol that ended in an express wedding in Las Vegas. They divorced the same year on amicable terms.

4. KATY PERRY AND RUSSELL BRAND
MARRIED FOR 14 MONTHS
The pop diva and the English comedian had one of those dazzling relationships that passed like a comet. Intense and passionate and with a heartbreaking ending. Perry and Brand seemed to be made for each other, but it turned out that they only had so many common goals in life. Russell Brand wanted to start a family, but Katy’s touring schedule and professional commitments meant she wasn’t ready. The comedian wondered if his wife would ever be prepared to be a mother – something he wanted more than anything – and didn’t hesitate to ask her for a divorce via text message moments before the singer took the stage to perform a concert in front of thousands of people. Dastardly Russell, very dastardly.

5. MILLA JOVOVICH AND SHAWN ANDREWS
MARRIED FOR 2 MONTHS
A gorgeous and young Milla Jovovich – the Resident Evil star – married Dazed and Confused actor Shawn Andrews when they were 16 and 21, respectively. This foolish idea didn’t sit well with Milla’s mother, who annulled the marriage herself two months later, being her guardian and responsible for the underage girl’s actions. Milla’smother stated in an interview that she had raised and educated her daughter to be a movie star, and nothing could stand in the way of that, much less the hunky actor from Dazed and Confused. But she got a taste for express weddings and repeated the experience with director Luc Besson, who directed Jovovich in The Fifth Element. They got married in Las Vegas and divorced a year later.

6. PAMELA ANDERSON AND KID ROCK
MARRIED FOR 4 MONTHS
The Baywatch star has yet to have much luck in love. But it isn’t for want of trying, making her one of the most lovable people in show business. She has kept her sweetness intact even in the face of unbearable paparazzi intrusion and that damn stolen sex tape. Her stormy relationship with Tommy Lee from Mötley Crüe, and the father of her children, is the stuff of legend. Pamela also “fell in love” with another bad boy of rock: the moronic Kid Rock. They got married in July 2006 on a beach in Saint-Tropez, Pamela in a white bikini, sipping champagne, and him shirtless, chugging on a cigar and swigging Corona. What could possibly go wrong?
